Portland has worked with the GXO group of companies on a retained basis since August 2021, having previously worked in a consultancy capacity for Kuehne + Nagel Ltd (now a subsidiary of GXO), initially analysing procurement strategy before setting up new fuel supply agreements via a managed tender process.

Portland is now responsible for advising the procurement strategy across GXO’s 40+ sites, with a volume requirement of 50m litres per annum. Working directly with GXO’s centralised procurement team, Portland oversees several fuel supply agreements with various fuel suppliers, across a range of purchase methods tendered annually.

Due to the nature of GXO’s developing business, this involves frequently incorporating additional sites and volume requirements within the centralised procurement strategy. In addition, Portland provides GXO with ongoing contract checking services, alternative fuels advisory (including assistance with the transition to renewable fuels) and process management between sites and suppliers.
